Malaria Free Senegal
MACEPA is a project at PATH, an international non-profit organization focused on global health innovation. MACEPA’s focus is on malaria elimination in Africa. This project is a case study to feature progress and highlight milestones in Senegal’s fight against malaria over the past two decades.
Designing for Print and Web
Implementation across double-page print spreads, single-page digital PDF, web and motion platforms is an essential consideration, as well as the need for a larger text footprint for a French translation.
The design concept features overlapping and floating rectangles with a strong suggestion of motion and interconnectivity. MACEPA’s and PATH’s multifaceted approach of combining technology, data, medication, funding and social support to precipitate malaria elimination is reflected in the integrative and energetic shape juxtaposition of this design.
MACEPA provided vibrant, eye-catching photography and requested creation of a color palette to reflect the energetic colors captured in the photographs based on textiles and environment. Multiple graphics were created to illustrate complex, data-driven concepts.
The booklet is featured and promoted on a dedicated, Squarespace-powered webpage about the case study, featuring web-based extensions of the design concept.
The case study was promoted by a printed, double-sided postcard in both English and French.
While the print-based design features implied depth and motion, the concept is brought to life using After Effects. Four motion graphics were created for use on Macepa's active Twitter feed to increase engagement with the case study.
